I started a magazine.
The first edition of Guyset Magazine is out now at Guyset.com There’s always an opportunity to do something different, do something better. An opportunity to create what you don’t see, what you’re looking for.
So here we go, here it is. I created what I’ve been looking for. For the last 5 years. A new generation of tools, tips, and recommendations for young guys to provide advice on what guys are wondering about, what guys really want to know. Welcome to the next generation of advice for guys. Welcome to Guyset magazine.
It’s been a long time coming and let me tell you more about it and about why I started it.
First the magazine is called Guyset magazine, it’s out now Guyset.com so you can look through it while I talk to you about it or wait til later up to you but same name as the podcast and website, which is now actively live and I’m working with someone to make it everything I want it to be but it’s barebones for now and this has kind of been my vision of Guyset since the start.
I started Guyset as a blog, it was called the 1921 Club, for 19 - 21 year old guys until I realized i was quickly going to outage my own club and that name was really dumb. But I started it as a blog and would post things catered to that audience because I realized there was really nothing out there for that audience. I realized a podcast would be a better way for me to communicate all of this every week and that is a great way to do it but I missed that blog element, and I heard from a lot of other people that they did too. I’ve been trying to find out a way to make this podcast more visual like when I share recommendations for things to buy like gift guides or outfit guides, what to wear on dates, to work, highlight brands I like and everything like that.
Social media was a quick solution but not everyone has social media. So I started thinking of the next thing I could do. And that brought me back to the blog.
But I wanted a way to connect what I’m doing here to the website and make this all a little more cohesive, like one Guyset universe. Also there’s a ton of things that I want to talk about but maybe don’t fit into the episode topics I have that month so this way I can do it all and provide as much value as I can while staying to the core of it.
Guyset has always been inspired by the big brands that have been doing this type of thing for years, sharing quote on quote advice for guys, and I always thought that the brands in that industry that were doing it were too big and that industry was almost too esoteric to be a part of., too hard to break into, or compete with.
I got halted by the idea that the brands giving guys advice or the people doing this already were too big to compete with.
But then I realized no one has tried to. No one has tried to break into this space at all really. And after a lot of research into the idea that these brands were too big to compete with, I realized that actually wasn’t true. The competition isn’t actually for young guys. No one is actually doing this, which is why I started it in the first place. I realized that there is actually is a big space and a big gap for something like this, geared towards younger guys.
Even further, I’ve find that the companies and magazines aimed at providing our generation and demographic with advice are promoting harmful things rather than helpful things. I want to tell you about one of the stories that GQ highlighted in their last issue of the magazine. The second cover story was called “how Zyn took over the American mouth” and it highlights and glorifies the rise of Zyns. Like what the actual hell is going on. That story is under their WELLNESS section. Actively under their wellness section. you can check it out for yourself. I found that to be insane, and again realized that there’s not only a space for something like this but a need for it.
So Guyset magazine will be a monthly magazine that releases on the first Tuesday or every month. I’m gonna tell you what this one features and walk you through some of my favorite sections and pages.
So there’s a letter from the editor which you’re practically getting right now this is probably way better, there’s an about me, again you know me, a style section- something I’ve been really wanting to do- outfit recommendations, talk about what to wear going out to work, etc. which is how this all started in the first place.
There’s Valentine’s Day gift guides and ideas for what to do for Valentine’s Day, there’s a recap of the episode navigating your first career change with a few of my favorite moments and quotes, there’s my January resume which is what I watched, read, and listened to.
There will be weekly guides, what to talk about on dates, what to talk about when meeting the parents, I’ll be answering literally all the questions asked in their own blog posts and it will be really easy to find the posts. That’s one of the reasons for this, there are some good forums to ask questions and get advice like one called Ask Men on reddit that has 6 million guys in it, it’s just impossible to find what you’re looking for without having to ask something again and you might get taken down for asking the same question so there’s a huge space to create an organized way to find all these questions and answers or recommendations and that’s on Guyset.com.
So when you search for something, at some point soon they’ll be a blog post, an episode, and a magazine feature talking about this. Everyday I’ll answer one of the questions asked online and by you guys. I’ll hopefully have guest on to share their perspective too and compile a bunch of guys opinions to have lots of diffrent perspectives and advice on the same topics so you can see a wide variety. But for now it’s just me.
It’ll be the one stop shop to all your questions, all the things you’re wondering about, or want advice or another perspective on.
I’m so excited about it.
There’s always opportunity to do something different, do something better. Opportunity to create what you don’t see, what you’re looking for. And you’ll find out soon if other people are looking for it too. I think they are.
With time it’ll look better and provide more advice, tools, tips, and recs. But you gotta start somewhere. If you don’t start where you are, with what you know, I’ll never go anywhere.
You’ve got to start somewhere to get anywhere.
And that means there’s only one way to go from here. So here we go, here it is. I created what I’ve been looking for. For the last 5 years. A new generation of tools, tips, and recommendations for young guys to actually provide helpful and beneficial advice on what guys really want to know.
Welcome to the next generation of advice for guys.
Welcome to Guyset magazine.
